Character counts. It’s a popular phrase in our community that is used to help teach children how to make good choices as well as recognize positive character traits. But what is character and where does it come from? How do we make our character count?
Character comes from within, it’s that small still voice that tries to guide us and steer us to making the right decisions. Decisions based on love and selflessness. It’s the voice that encourages us to do something helpful for someone when there is nothing in it for us. It’s doing the right thing even if it costs us. But how do we tap into this voice and learn to listen to it?
Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He told us that He would leave with us the Holy Spirit to reside in each of us. It’s up to us to accept this gift. When we make the conscious choice to listen to the small still voice of the Holy Spirit we can make our character count. It becomes second nature to listen and obey as we grow in our relationship with our creator. If we want to make our character count we need to put into action what Christ places in our hearts.
